Odessa catacombs

Catacombs, there are artificial underground galleries of dual origin. Some of them are former quarries, other bellow basements of houses.

Odessa catacombs are most famous in the world, not only for their labyrinths,  but also for their extent which reaches three thousand kilometers. For comparison: the lenght of the Roman catacombs is three hundred kilometers, the Parisian five hundred kilometers. The approximate length and location of the Odessa’s underground labyrinths is still unknown.

The caves under Odessa are full of legends. One of legends narrates about the model of a ship, done from pure gold and hidden by one captain in catacombs. He went to war and decided to hide the fortune. But the seaman didn’t return from the war, and his toy-ship was not found ever.

The second legend, is similar to the first one. A Captain of Odessa has saved the passengers of the “Titanic” and in anticipation they gave to him as a gift, a golden miniature of the “Titanic”. The Captain hided his gift in the catacombs, when left for the war and never returned back.
