yalta The first records of Yalta refer to XII century.

In 1475 Yalta, as well as all South coast, becomes the domain of the Turkish sultan. Almost one hundred years the war lasted for Crimea between the Ottoman Empire and Russia, finished with the victory of the Russian. In 1783 the manifest of Ekaterina II strengthened lordship of the Russian tsars over a peninsula.

The center of city was decorated with wonderful hotels and private boarding-schools, fashionable shops, restaurants and cafes.

The 1st stone building was the bell tower of Ioann Zlatoust church on the Polikurovskiy hill that rises upon mall. Among the museums of Large Yalta the most famous are the Alupkinskiy castle and park preserve, Livadiyskiy historical and artistic exhibition complex, House museum of A.P. Chechov in Yalta, the state Yalta historical and literary museum (in a complex of museum of A.S. Pushkin in Gurzufe), literary-memorial museum of Lesya Ukrainka - the great Ukrainian poetess the monument of which is set at a museum in 1972, to the 100year anniversary from the day of birth of prominent daughter of the Ukrainian nation. The sea-front begins with the central square of the town – the Lenin Square. The first excursion from sea-front is possible to make towards the Seashore Park. On the road you will see the best-looking building - the hotel «Oreanda», for foreign tourists it is the original emblem of city. This hotel was made available after reconstruction in 1982-1984.The obelisk, which has the shape of an open book with text of decree of Council of People Commissars of USSR on «Use of the Crimea for treatment of workers», rises in the Seashore Park. The Yalta film studio sets up its pavilions in the park; it is one of the first in Russia’s film studio. The prominent person of the Russian cinematography, known actor and producer V.RGardin worked here.
